Wynkoop Brewing Company
A mainstay in Denver's lower downtown area with award-winning beers in cans
Colorado's first brewpub and Denver's first craft brewery, Wynkoop Brewing Company sets the standard for quality with their acclaimed small-batch beers.
Founded in 1988, Wynkoop Brewing Company is Denver, Colorado's oldest craft brewery, established by Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper and a group of young entrepreneurs. It's widely known for its highly acclaimed small-batch beers, high quality food, housing the city's best pool hall, and of course, its incredible historic 1888 building located in lower downtown.
Since day one, Wynkoop Brewing Company has been ahead of the game. Whether it's their selection of award-winning beer on tap, their philanthropic spirit (donating to many local charities), or their dedication to be good stewards of the land (they use leftover oil for biodiesel and send their brewing grains to feed livestock), everyone should be proud to be sipping on a bottle - or CAN - of Wynkoop craft beer. The brewery also pays tribute to Denver's history - Wynkoop was named after the city's first sheriff, Ned Wynkoop. All in all, Wynkoop Brewing Company has become a mainstay of Denver's community and a proud addition to the lower downtown neighborhood.
Today, brewing operations are headed by Brewmaster Andy Brown, who has been professionally brewing award-winning beers for over 10 years. He brings a passionate spirit to his craft, ensuring a promising future for Wynkoop. Andy also honors the legacy of Wynkoop's original brewer, Russel Schehrer, who helped launch the brewpub in 1988. He was one of the first U.S. craft brewers to produce Mead, Doppel Bock, Altbier, Cream Stout and Chili Beer, and his efforts blaze significant trails for brewers to come.
Over the past two years, Wynkoop has expanded twice to make room for new fermenters and increase their brewing capacity. With this larger space comes more room for brewing new styles and experimental recipes, and we, for one, can't wait to see what they come up with next.
We hope you enjoy these two winning ales from Wynkoop Brewing Company, and if you are ever in Denver, make sure to add this stop to your visit. It will be a taste experience you won't soon forget.
