One of the great craft breweries of the “Badger State,” Wisconsin Brewing Company shows its state pride through a range of award-winning brews.


It all started with brothers Carl and Mark Nolan and Brewmaster Kirby Nelson - three Wisconsin-born-and-raised guys who shared a passion for the “Badger State.” From its friendly people, to the bountiful resources and rich brewing heritage, they knew there was an opportunity to create some awesome beer while embracing and sharing the state’s brewing history. In a way, they yearned to be storytellers, and officially brewed their first batches of Wisconsin beer, all named to honor Wisconsin’s history and culture, in 2013. Today, the brewery is one of the largest and fastest-growing craft breweries in the state with a future that looks incredibly bright.

Based in Verona, Wisconsin Brewing Company is set in an expansive 21,000 square-foot facility, complete with a huge outdoor beer garden and a backyard pond that visitors can paddle around! The space offers a friendly and relaxing setting where beer enthusiasts can truly enjoy the award-winning selections that Wisconsin Brewing Company has to offer.

The Brewmaster behind these celebrated beers, Kirby Nelson, has been brewing for nearly 45 years. Before settling at Wisconsin Brewing Company in 2013, his career took him overseas, as well as around the United States, where he fine-tuned his recipes and became known for his German-style lagers. The G.O.A.T. Maibock in this month’s feature is especially close to his heart and one of his favorite styles to brew.

In recent years, Wisconsin Brewing Company has had its eye set on even further growth, acquiring Lake Louie Brewing Company in 2019, and in the past few months, teaming up with a group of investors who plan to take the brewery to the next level. While Carl Nolan has stepped down as President, he continues to be in a leadership role while serving on the company’s board of directors. The new WBC President is Paul Verdu, an industry veteran who recently left Molson Coors where he led the company’s craft beer division across the country.
