Susquehanna Brewing Company lives by the slogan, “Brewed Right,” which is a lifestyle, promise and an ode to the people of Northeastern Pennsylvania

Located on the banks of the Susquehanna River in Pittston, Pennsylvania, Susquehanna Brewing Company may have opened its doors just ten years ago, but co-founder Fred Maier’s family has been involved in brewing since 1849. Today, Fred (a sixth generation brewer) works closely with brewmaster Beau Baden to craft quality beers that are interesting and continue to stand out from the crowd in the world’s rapidly changing beer market.

Fred’s family roots in brewing date back to his great-great-great grandfather, Charles Stegmaier, who emigrated from Germany in 1849. He brought with him the relatively new (to America) knowledge of lager brewing and in 1851 actually brewed the first lager in northeast Pennsylvania. In 1896, Charles purchased a local brewery and renamed it Susquehanna Brewing Company, and that original operation lasted until 1919. At the time, the family also owned Baer & Stegmaier Brewing Co. (founded in 1857), and Maier Brewing Co. in Los Angeles purchased in 1875). Susquehanna Brewing Company was re-founded in 2010 by Fred Maier and his father, Edward, continuing the family brewing tradition.

With generations of success and experience behind it, Susquehanna Brewing Company is doing quite well in Pittston, Pennsylvania, where it sticks to the fundamentals and lives by the slogan, “Brewed Right,” which is a lifestyle, promise and an ode to the people of Northeastern Pennsylvania to deliver the highest quality beer possible, made with premium ingredients and an undeniable passion for the craft. The brewery also honors its roots by crafting several beers that are inspired by the family’s beer recipes of the past.

Brewmaster Beau Baden is a world-class addition to the Susquehanna brewing family, having previously served as brewmaster for Fegley’s Brew Works in Allentown. His beers have garnered countless awards and continue to earn prestigious medals and recognition at Susquehanna Brewing Co.

We are happy to introduce Susquehanna Brewing Company to our Craft Beer Club members and hope you enjoy the Hopcellerator and Orange is the New Ale - two favorites in their lineup of specialty ales and lagers. Cheers!
