St. John Brewers
Talk about living the life! Friends and brewers Chirag Vyas and Kevin Chipman were once-upon-a-time living in the United States, working the 9-5 lifestyle, and completely frustrated that it seemingly defined their existence. Vyas, who grew up in Providence, Rhode Island, was living in California and working as a scientist for NASA, and Chipman was a physical therapist in Boston. The friends had been roommates at the University of Vermont, and after two years at their jobs, decided to quit, sell everything, and move to the Virgin Islands. The two were excited about their new adventure, just planning on spending some time in the sun, bar tending, and then heading back to the real world after some vacation time. However, their trip didn't go as planned. After getting jobs as bartenders and waiting tables, Vyas and Chipman realized something was missing on St. John - good beer! After discovering and enjoying craft beers in college, they longed to enjoy that style of beer on St. John. Vyas and Chipman ordered a beer making kit online, and what started as a hobby quickly turned into a passion that consumed most of their free time. They experimented with different varieties and after a few short years had perfected their signature recipe for a pale ale with a hint of mango - the beer that put St. John Brewers on the map! As demand for St. John Brewers beer outgrew their ability to produce locally, the two teamed up with a stateside production partner and began distributing their beer to island restaurants and markets. Today, they're celebrating over ten years in business! Vyas and Chipman also own and operate The Tap Room, their flagship brew pub located in the heart of Cruz Bay where locals, island-hoppers and stateside visitors can partake in the ultimate island life.
