Newport Storm Brewery
Happily serving Newport, Rhode Island residents since 1999.
It isn’t surprising to hear that four guys from college came up with an idea to start a brewery, but what may be surprising is that these guys are all still friends and the award-winning brewery they built is still growing after over a decade of being open. Newport Storm Brewery was the dream of Brent, Derek, Mark, and Will, and that dream became a reality in April of 1999.
The four friends met while attending Colby College, each studying the science that would help them understand how to make beer, while doing some home-brewing on the side. After graduating in 1997, the four pressed forward with their dream and planned to open their brewery in Newport, Rhode Island. By April of 1999, they were moving into their own 2,500 square foot brewing facility and Newport Storm’s first beer, Hurricane Amber, was released just a few short months later.
Since opening, Newport Storm Brewery has become a local mainstay. The brewery has continued to grow, adding additional brewing space in 2002. They have experimented with over 30 different styles of distinctive craft beers and their mission to brew quality, unique, local craft brews is without a doubt still of the utmost importance.
In 2010, Newport Storm built a brand new facility in the North End of Newport, which increased square footage to 8,000 and allowed the crew to build a large visitors center and a new, state-of-the-art brewery. They continue to produce highly anticipated, limited-release beers along with their reputable, award-winning staples that see year round production. The founders are incredibly proud of how far they’ve come, and look forward to many more years (and beers) at Rhode Island’s Newport Storm.
