Mustang Brewing Company
Distinctive, sessionable beers from Oklahoma
Mustang Brewing Company was founded in 2009 with the intention of making great, easy-drinking craft beers that can be enjoyed year-round. After deciding they wanted to get into the beer business, co-founders Tim and Carmen Schoelen drafted a business plan, sold their house, cashed out their 401k, moved into a rental house, and started learning to brew beer in their garage with a 5 gallon turkey fryer.
Now in the brewing business for four years, the couple has come a long way with a lot to be proud of. With all of the growth Oklahoma City has seen over the past few years - particularly with the revitalization of downtown and the national attention of an NBA team - it seemed like the perfect time for Tim and Carmen to start a craft brewing company.
On July 13, 2009, they served their first pint of Mustang beer and it’s been a whirlwind ever since. They are extremely humbled by their quick growth and the support by craft beer drinkers across Oklahoma. Tim and Carmen are thrilled to work with Brewmaster Gary Shellman to develop the Mustang Brewing Company beers. Gary has crafted numerous award-winning recipes over his 20-year-career, all 10-15 of his own brews on tap at any one time.
At Mustang Brewing Company, the focus has always been on making easy-drinking craft beers, so the core lineup is a range of session beers including a Wheat, Amber Lager, and Golden Ale. Gary also works on a couple seasonal ales and limited-production series for the Mustang brand.
Currently, Mustang Brewing Company is working to expand their operation by building a new brewhouse in the headquarters building in Oklahoma City. The previous brewing location sadly sustained extensive damage from a tornado earlier this year, but Mustang didn’t let the damage slow them down for long. The new facility is scheduled to open by the end of the year and will provide twice the brew space as the previous location. It will also include a tasting room, merchandise store, and event space. Tim and Carmen are looking forward to their future growth and are thrilled to celebrate another year of doing what they love.
