You won’t find another company honoring Wisconsin Brewing heritage more than Capital Brewery of Downtown Middleton
Capital Brewery of Middleton, Wisconsin, has been the forefront of the Craft Beer scene in American for decades. From rich and dark tasting German beers to newer, cutting-edge styles that please a wide variety of beer fans, Capital Brewery is always experimenting and refining what they offer.
The brewery got its start more than 30 years ago when founder Ed Janus, former owner of the Madison Muskies baseball team, decided he needed to bring richer, darker, more European-styled beers to the forefront in Wisconsin.
Capital was founded on March 14, 1984. Ed purchased and installed the copper lauter tun, and brew kettle, from the Krekeler Brewery in Hoxter, Germany in 1985 and brewed the first batch of beer in 1986. The public embraced the new local brewery and its success has continued to grow ever since.
Today, Capital Brewery’s Brewmaster is Ashley Kinart. Ashley is a UW Madison graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. She then received an International Brewing Diploma from the Siebel Institute of Technology at the Doemens Academy in Munich, Germany. Ashley, who grew up in Brookfield, WI, is also a member of the Pink Boots Society. The Pink Boots Society is a national organization that empowers women beer professionals to advance their careers in the beer industry through education. Her Fishin’ in the Dark was an overnight sensation, soon followed by Schwarz in a Box, King George and Grateful, a Red IPA.
Capital Brewery was named the Grand National Champion at the 2013 United States Open Beer Championship and has won over 235 other awards over the past 30 years of brewing excellence!
