Black Hog Brewing Co.
An award-winning brewery with culinary soul, Black Hog Brewing Company brings together a passion for BBQ and craft beer in the heart of Connecticut.
Founded by Tyler Jones and brothers Tom and Jason Sobocinski, Black Hog Brewing Company is one of Connecticut’s newest craft breweries, opening its doors in 2014 in the town of Oxford. The brewery is committed to crafting flavorful, drinkable beers using the finest and freshest local ingredients. The incredibly diverse and unique line up of Black Hog beers are available for tasting at the lively new tasting room, featuring a custom Jenga, Pac Man/Galaga arcade machine, and cornhole, all located within the 3,500 square foot brewery.
Black Hog Brewing Company originally started with the story of food, family, and a love for craft beer. Brothers Jason and Tom Sobocinski come from a Polish/Italian family where food and drink is always the focus of every gathering and roasting a pig has become the favorite way to celebrate any special occasion. When they do roast a pig, the Berkshire hog is the breed of choice, thus the name ‘Black Hog.’ Tyler Jones is an old family friend and a former brewer of The Portsmouth Brewery in New Hampshire. When Tyler contacted the Sobocinski brothers about moving to New Haven, they formulated a plan to start a brewery together - one that would celebrate family and food, and encompass all that they are passionate about.
The Sobocinski brothers have been in the food/restaurant business for some time, opening ‘The Cheese Truck’ together (the top food truck in New Haven) and Ordinary bar, which serves fine wines, craft beer and specialty cocktails alongside a selection of charcuterie, cheese and BBQ. Jason Sobocinski’s expertise is in cheese, as the owner of his own cheese shop with an adjoining restaurant called Caseus Fromagerie Bistro. This newest project of opening Black Hog Brewing Company introduces the brothers’ two loves of craft beer and BBQ into the mix - and of course, each Black Hog brew has a suggested cheese pairing to show their love of cheese.
This culinary background drives the craft brew creations at Black Hog Brewing Co, from the year-round core offerings to the wild experimental ales - but they are all well balanced ‘food beers’ and made to enjoy with an array of favorite dishes. The trio is always looking to try something different, offering visitors and consumers an ever-expanding collection of thoughtfully conceived, distinctive craft beers that continue to impress. We look forward to what the future holds for this Connecticut favorite. Enjoy!
