Georgia
The Peach State
Georgia’s brewing history started back in the year 1738. Around this time, Major William Horton had a home and farm on Jekyll Island. On this Island, he grew many things, but the most significant was his barely and hops, which allowed him to produce the first Georgia beers.
Due to the big, name-brand breweries like MillerCoors and Anheuser-Busch setting up their own facilities, Georgia has become the 4th largest beer manufacturer in the country. As for Georgia craft beer, it ranks number 17 as the largest craft beer producer in the country. All in all, compared to the past Georgia breweries are booming.
Some of the best breweries in Georgia have been around for a long time, whereas others have shown up rather recently. One of the best and largest breweries in Georgia operated in Atlanta from 1858 to 1956. However, in the past decade, the number of new Georgia breweries has over doubled the total in existence now.
The Georgia beer laws are mostly focused around when, where, and what days you can buy beer. So, what time can you buy beer in Georgia? Monday through Saturday, beer can be purchased from 8 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. in grocery and convenience stores. For those wondering, can you buy beer on Sunday in Georgia? The answer is sometimes. Several counties in Georgia do not permit the sale of alcohol on Sundays, but those that do require it be sold only between 12:30 p.m. and 11:45 p.m.
Another Georgia beer law that was changed somewhat recently is the ABV limit. In 2004, the allotted ABV of Georgia craft beers was raised from 6% up to 14%, giving more room for experimental brewers to grow and sell their products.
Some of the best Georgia breweries that everyone who travels there should visit are: SweetWater Brewing, Creature Comforts Brewing, Monday Night Brewing, Orpheus Brewing, Terrapin Beer Company, Three Taverns Brewery, and of course so many more.
We have had the pleasure of featuring beers in our craft beer club from the great Atlanta Brewing Company, SweetWater Brewing Company, Red Brick Brewing Company, and Coastal Empire Beer Company. We look forward to featuring more of the best Georgia craft beers in our shipments to come.
